You've probably heard it said that the sun is hot and if you aren't careful you could die a slow death. I find this extremely true because in the heat of summer or at any other time of year when temperatures are about to drop quickly. I have found this in several years at least. I don't see my family members fall to their deaths from dehydration when we go places. Most people also see a slight increase in water resistance so when we do get out of the car and get into someplace warm (not like swimming pools) where our body will need to work harder to hold onto us. This is why I'm going to start by saying this... how does your body work when you exercise in the heat? Here are the ways.
- Your muscles are temperature sensitive. Temperature is what allows muscle tissues to contract. As you get warmer, some parts of your muscle become heavier and have more fibers which allow them to perform better. They cannot work as well when they have less thermal energy, so that is why you have to remember to drink lots of water! Some muscles are more able to tolerate temperatures a little lower than others, but there is one area where all muscle cell types work best. These are the muscles that contract as a result of exercise. So, for example, those who experience an injury and tendons become thicker because they can no longer support themselves without help. Now, think about all those muscles. When you exercise it makes the muscle cells work harder and better. But, because my muscles cannot keep up with the cold of Arizona summers, I am forced to make very small changes to the way I run, ride my bike, and even swim. If these small changes are made to your daily routine, then, of course... you can enjoy the benefits.
- Your blood volume levels will also change. Your body creates a higher amount of blood, which means that more tissue and blood are present in the organs. Because of this, when exercising, you will be less likely to build up too many large vessels in the body and increase your risk of infection. Your skin will have fewer toxins, which reduces inflammation, makes certain foods and beverages easier to digest. Your cardiovascular system is designed to pump blood throughout your body in different directions. When you exercise, this allows more of the blood to flow through your body and maintain your core temperature to be able to stay cool and take in more oxygen.
- Your body's natural immune response is triggered when you exercise and this causes your body to produce antibodies and white blood cells to fight against the disease. What you're experiencing is a good thing. It is also important to know that you will need to adjust this process. Not only that there are times when you feel dizzy, faint, nauseous, and sometimes even shortness of breath. These are called a variety of things that show that your body is struggling to adapt to the demands of exercise. So, remember to not give it much thought if you can avoid this and stay safe. Remember, "The next day, I'll go for my usual walk in the park."
- Remember, we all want to stay healthy so it's best to do everything possible to remain fit and efficient when recovering. We also want to keep our weight in check so we try to eat healthy meals and stay active throughout the day. So, it's best to remember what the signs are telling you when you are feeling unwell and follow these tips to help take care of yourself when exercise isn't possible.
- You could go to a doctor when you notice your symptoms and you are unable to do something you used to be able to do. For example, someone with an ulcer could tell a doctor that he/she is having problems doing regular activities like running or walking. There should always be a medical explanation for why something hurts and what's causing it. And the best way to get a diagnosis is to be evaluated by a doctor who can look at a patient, assess the situation, look into the history of a person and provide recommendations for treatment and a proper diet and lifestyle.
