There’s a lot of discussion about how weight loss is an amazing thing, and it’s no wonder why so many people want to lose weight and look better than they did when they were younger. But as we get older, our bodies get used to the way that we are put together. Even if you start at a healthy 5/10 body mass index (BMI), the good news is that the average BMI can drop by up to 1.4.
One of the key things I like to do when it comes to dieting is eating healthier; eating more fruits and vegetables, less dairy products, drinking water instead of soda (or bottled water if you like the idea of drinkable beverages), and taking care of your skin and hair. After some time goes by, you will feel a different kind of tiredness that doesn’t quite match that of when you started. A week or two later, you might notice weight loss even as you look at yourself through the window.
Many people don’t know or aren’t aware of the fact that this is normal for our bodies. In most cases, women aren't aware of how their body works until it's been in their 40s. Even then, they aren't able to see what happens once they reach 50, which is usually around 18 years after age 30. This means that it can take 10-20 years for the fat to build upon itself (known as abdominal lip erosion) and become noticeable. Thankfully, it gets much easier to hide this kind of belly when you reach your mid-forties and there’s less risk of it showing up when you get into your late-thirties. So it’s not a bad idea to think about losing a few pounds when you hit 50. It could be really useful to make sure that when you get to your mid-forties you're still looking great because there is still time after all those decades of being overweight to go back to being at a healthy weight when you get older.
Losing weight is very easy to do. When we go out to dinner, we might look at portions. We might try to fit them into smaller plates, but the truth is that a little bit, no matter how big or small, is more healthy than nothing. If we aren’t careful, then we end up with way too much food on the table and a large portion at the table isn’t enough. The solution? Get creative! Eat more fruits and vegetables, have fewer desserts, and drink more water. You may even find that your clothes fit better when you make fewer purchases. These tips will help you maintain your lifestyle, without letting you give up eating whatever you want whenever you want.
1. Drink Water
Everyone should drink water every morning and every day. No one drinks enough water. And as mentioned previously, it helps you stay healthy and keeps your skin glowing. Try to drink at least 3 to 4 liters each day, unless you are dehydrated.
2. Do Your Grocery Shopping Every Week
If you don’t buy any fruits and veggies, then you aren’t getting the vitamins and minerals your body needs. Instead, you need to eat a bunch of stuff that will fill your stomach while also giving you extra fiber and protein. The best way to do this is to buy all organic produce and organic meat, organic dairy, organic milk, and organic flour. The other option is buying these foods from supermarkets, but again, be mindful of the size of whatever you decide to buy.
Most grocery stores carry smaller baskets, but buying larger bottles of water will help you see the difference before you buy anything else. Don’t forget to choose low sodium items, either; most grocery stores have a line item for water when you walk into the store. For instance, if you see vinegar, water vinegar, or water tapioca syrup, these are your friend. They aren’t high in calories, sugar, salt, or carbohydrates (that are so prevalent nowadays), which will cut down on the amount of junk food you will eat. Plus, most grocery stores will keep your money better by selling bulk sizes. You don’t need to commit to buying everything outright; instead, just stick with organic items. Buying locally produced food will save you money and ensure quality food. Here are two links below to read reviews of local farmers, if you'd like to learn more about this topic.
3. Add More Protein To Your Diet
For many people, adding protein to their diet isn’t easy, especially for women who tend to be weaker compared to men. However, the truth is that you can add more protein to your diet without actually increasing your calorie count or making you gain weight. Consider it a bonus when a woman tells you she eats 2 servings of eggs per day for breakfast because “they don’t seem to cause me any major problems.” Think about this question: What do you think? Not only are eggs high in protein, but they are also rich in cholesterol, which isn't common when eating eggs. Eggs are also high in unsaturated fats, which makes them a perfect choice for heart health!
4. Spend Time With Yourself
You aren’t doing anyone any favors when you sit back and watch TV while eating chips and salsa at the mall when you’re 40. If you do this, think of the long hours that it takes you to break down your favorite movie and binge on Netflix while watching football on ESPN. That’s because you aren’t spending any valuable time with yourself. You should spend time with yourself (and your family) while we're busy working, cooking, and running errands. While you are doing this, make sure that there aren’t snacks or unhealthy treats on hand. Talk to your body. While we are eating, let yourself feel hungry. Let your body tell you when you are full. Just remember that you deserve to feel satisfied.
5. Stand Up
If you have trouble standing up, stand up! Have you ever seen someone lose 20 pounds? You won’t know it until you see how different your body feels. Stand up whenever you feel the urge. Sit down whenever you’re feeling dizzy or nauseous. Walk whenever you want, but take steps. Stand up and walk back to the car to get fresh air and exercise while you drive to work. Make up for 30 minutes of movement a day during work to support yourself and your muscles.
Take the stairs instead of the elevator, even if it takes you longer to reach the door. Walk around the parking lot at night whenever possible and avoid busy malls and shopping centers. Whether you opt for walking instead of using the elevator, riding an exercise bike instead of a car, or going for a run while waiting for the bus, the point is that you should do something fun every day, whether it’s something simple like climbing the stairs or something elaborate like dancing to the Bee Geezer. The secret to living a good life will have to include exercise, but it does have to come naturally. Be consistent! Look for ways to incorporate it throughout your whole day.
